Quiva abacata (Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1878)

Itauna dorisae Piza, 1967 syn. nov.

Itauna Piza, 1967 syn. nov. of Quiva Hebard, 1927

According to the original description Itauna is supposed to be similar to Phaneroptera , an Old World genus with only one species described from South America ( Ph. quadrivittata Piza, 1967 ). However, the type species I. dorisae , with its whitish coloration and black markings, is a typical member of the tribe Dysoniini View in CoL , and can be placed into the genus Quiva (according to Rehn 1950 and photographs of type specimens in OSF). Of the three species in this genus Quiva abacata is the only one described from a female. Comparing photographs of the holotype (collected somewhere in Brazil) to the two male syntypes of Itauna dorisae (collected in southeast Brazil), many details in habitus and coloration match very well. And there are no apparent contradictions to Rehn’s exceedingly verbose description of male external genitalia (based on specimens from Suriname, French Guiana, and probably Brazil). Thus Itauna dorisae is almost certainly conspecific with Quiva abacata .
