Colletes argentinus Friese, 1908 stat. rev.

Colletes argentinus Friese, 1908 . Lectotype ♂ at ZMHB (designated by Moure & Urban [2002]), examined. Type locality: Argetina, Mendoza.

Colletes rugicollis View in CoL ; Moure & Urban, 2002 (partim).

Diagnosis. This species is similar to C. rugicollis , however, they can be distinguished by the facial pilosity, which, in C. argentinus , is composed of black and white hairs (entirely yellowish in C. rugicollis ) and by the ordinary hypostomal carina in C. argentinus (forming a high, concave lamella in C. rugicollis ).

♀♂—Labrum black, impunctate and without longitudinal sulci; clypeus without mid-longitudinal depression; hypostomal carina ordinary; mid-posterior region of mesoscutum with small, smooth impunctate area; ventral region of mesepisternum, near ventral end of episternal groove, normal, without swollen area surrounded by hairs; marginal zone of T1 convex.

♀—Malar area 0.35 times as long as interocellar distance; clypeus coarsely rugose; F1 slightly longer than its apical width; gena, behind the upper eye margin, flat, not carinate posteriorly; anterolateral angle of pronotum triangular, shorter than its basal width; pilosity on mesoscutum composed of a mix of black and white hairs; pilosity on mesepisternum, ventrally, sparse; fore coxa without spine; inner spur of hind tibia serrate; punctation on T1 coarse and dense.

♂—Malar area 0.5 times as long as interocellar distance; clypeus with rugae; F1 slightly shorter than its apical width; gena, behind the upper eye margin, flat, not carinate posteriorly; anterolateral angle of pronotum triangular, shorter than its basal width; pilosity on mesoscutum composed of a mix of black and white hairs; pilosity on mesepisternum, ventrally, sparse; fore coxa without spine; inner spur of hind tibia serrate; punctation on T1coarse and dense; S7 as illustrated in Figures 6 View FIGURE 6 C, 6D; genitalia as illustrated in Figures 7 View FIGURE 7 C, 7D.

Redescription. Male (Lectotype, Fig. 10 View FIGURE 10 ):

Measurements (mm): Approximate body length 9.1; head width 2.9; head length 2.4; interocellar distance 0.55; ocellorbital distance 0.48; F1 0.16 x 0.26 (length x width); malar area 0.22 x 0.40 (length x width); intertegular distance 2.3; wing length 6.2; length of hind basitarsus 0.9.

Structure: Labrum with longitudinal sulci; clypeus without mid-longitudinal depression but with coarse longitudinal rugae; hypostomal carina ordinary; gena, behind the upper eye margin, flat, not carinate posteriorly; anterolateral angle of pronotum triangular, shorter than its basal width; outer surface of hind basitarsum flat; marginal zone of T1 convex.

Body color: Predominantly black, except light-brown on tarsi, tarsal claws, tibial spurs, wing veins (except costal vein), pterostigma; dark-brown on galea, mandible, costal vein, femora, tibiae and marginal zones of terga.

Pilosity: Predominantly dark, except whitish on face, gena, preoccipital fringe, mesoscutum, and marginal zones of S2–S5. On mandible simple, moderately sparse and moderately short. Geographic distribution. ARGENTINA; BRAZIL (Minas Gerais [see Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 ]).

Comments. C. argentinus may be a junior synonym of C. punctatissimus Schrottky, 1902 , which is currently considered as a junior synonym of C. rugicollis . The type of C. punctatissimus should be deposited in MZUSP, but could not be found there and may be lost ( Rasmussen et al. 2009).
