Type host: Dendrocopos major Linnaeus ( Piciformes : Picidae ). Type locality: Germany. NON-PHYSOGASTRIC FEMALE (1 specimen from type host species). Total body length 660. Gnathosoma . Hypostomal apex rounded, with shoulders. Infracapitulum apunctate. Movable cheliceral digit edentate in posterior part. Peritremes V-shaped. Each medial branch with 5–6 chambers, each lateral branch with 6–7 chambers. Stylophore 230 long. Podomers of palps densely punctate. Idiosoma . Propodonotal shield divided into 2 narrow shields and single pear-like median shield, all propodonotal shields punctate. Lateral shield bearing bases of setae ve, si and se. Setae vi, ve and si lightly beaded. Length ratio of setae vi:ve:si is 1.4:1:1.4–1.5. Bases of setae vi and ve situated at same transverse level. Setae se and c1 situated at same transverse level. Pygidial shield well developed, punctate. Setae f2 1.5 times longer than f1. Setae h1 twice as long as f1. Setae h2 about 5 times longer than h1. Alveoles of setae 3a–3a not coalesced. Aggenital setae ag1 situated anterior to level of setae ag2. Length ratio of setae ag1:ag2:ag3 2.8:1:4.8. Genital plate present. Setae ps2 slightly (1.2 times) longer than ps2. Genital setae short and thick, situated on genital lobes. All coxal fields well sclerotized, apunctate. Setae 3c about 3 times longer than 3b. Legs. Antaxial and paraxial members of claws subequal in size. Setae tc”III–IV slightly (1.2 times) longer than tc’III–IV. PHYSOGASTRIC FEMALE (neotype and 2 paraneotypes). Body worm-shaped outline, 1050–1385 long. Morphology of body and legs as in non-physogastric form.
MALE. Unknown.

Host range and habitat. Oligoxenous species inhabiting body quills of woodpeckers ( Picidae ): Dendrocopos major , D. minor hortorum , D. leucotos and Picoides tridactylus in Palaearctic region.
Distribution. Palaearctic: England, Germany, Slovakia and Poland.
