The genus Lype is small in species diversity and found throughout the Holarctic Region as well as in India and Africa. According to the Trichoptera World Checklist (Morse 2001) this genus is known from 5 fossil, 14 extant species and 1 subspecies. A 15th species, L. zwicki , was described by Arefina in 2002. The genus Lype is represented in Russia by 5 species, 3 of which are known from the Russian Far East: L. excisa Mey 1991 from Sakhalin Island; L. daurica Ivanov & Levanidova from Primorye (in Arefina et al. 1996); and, L. zwicki from Khabarovsky Krai. Subsequently, several specimens of this latter species were found in Primorye (Kabarga River, a right tributary of the Ussuri River, Amur River Basin). A new species, Lype lubaretsi n. sp., was collected from the Aldikon River near Norsk Village at a UV light. This river is a left tributary of the Selemdja River, which flows into the Zeya River.
