scientific name

Omalostoma Rondani, 1862d: 58
status

379. Omalostoma Rondani, 1862d: 58 .

ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Omalostoma fortis Rondani, 1862 ; Omalostoma robusta Rondani, 1862 .

TYPE SPECIES: Omalostoma fortis Rondani, 1862 , by subsequent designation ( Townsend, 1916: 8) .

CURRENT STATUS: Junior synonym of Billaea Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 [ teste Herting & Dely-Draskovits (1993: 357) ].

FAMILY: TACHINIDAE .

REMARKS: Herting & Dely-Draskovits (1993: 357) indicated the method of typification for Omalostoma Rondani, 1862 as by monotypy, but this is incorrect because there are two included species. Townsend (1916: 8) is the earliest subsequent designation. Verrall in Scudder (1882: 165) listed the spelling Homalostoma and this was cited as an emendation by Bezzi & Stein (1907: 440, “ em. Scudd.”), but criteria for making this name available as an emendation were not found to be fulfilled in Scudder (1882). Homalostoma Verrall, 1882 is thus an unavailable name, new status.

EMENDATIONS: Homalostoma Bezzi & Stein, 1907: 440 (unjustified), n. syn.
