Type species: Podistra alpina Motschulsky, 1839 (by monotypy)

Distribution. In the Palaearctic realm the genus is distributed from the Atlantic to the Pacific coasts, with highest diversity in the Greater Caucasus; also known from an isolated mountainous area in North America (New Mexico) ( Figs 6 View FIGURE 6 , 7 View FIGURE 7 ).
