Material examined. A male, 18 mm, dissected for SEM, AM P.99366, b female, 25 mm, dissected for SEM, AM P.99367, Maketu, North Island, coll. J.C. Wiburd, 25 April 1935; 23 specimens (including 15 mm, 16.3 mm, 17.5 mm, 18 mm, 19 mm, 20 mm, 21 mm, 22.5 mm, 23 mm), AM P.10842, Maketu , North Island, coll. J.C. Wiburd, 25 April 1935; many specimens, AM P.3413, Dunedin, New Zealand (45°52'S 170°30'E) collector and date unknown ; 2 specimens, male, 18.5 mm, dissected (parts in microvial) and female, 16 mm, not dissected, NIWA 104072 , Ocean Beach , east coast of North Island (35°48′56.412′′S 174°33′34.272′′E), 0 m, 4 February 1991 (station Z16050) ; 2 specimens, male, 19/12 th of and inch, dry pinned, BMNH White 3 968.a–b, New Zealand ; 1 specimen, BMNH 1928.12 .1.2430, Dunedin , Donor Stebbing Collection ; 5 specimens (males 24 mm, 21 mm; females 17 mm, 14 mm; juvenile 10 mm) BMNH 1928.12.1.2431–2435, Dunedin , Donor Stebbing Collection ; 3 females (17 mm, 14mm, 13mm), BMNH 1907.12.2.86–87, sandy shores near Dunedin , Pres. Type locality. New Zealand (no further details) .

Size. Males 24 mm, females 25 mm.

Remarks. Historic Stebbing collections from the Natural History Museum, London and more recently collected material of B. quoyana from NIWA were compared, and additional illustrations of the species are provided based on the recent collections from the New Zealand, North Island.

Habitat. S upralittoral.

Distribution. New Zealand. South Island: Ross Beach; Westland; Waimakariri River, Kaiapoi Beach, Dunedin ( Chilton 1917, Hurley 1956, current study). North Island: Maketu, Ocean Beach (current study).
