Comparison. Very similar to S. orosia sp. nov. in colour pattern and structure but differs by the narrower clypeus, robust mandible, longer gap between propodeal spiracle and pleural carina, shorter second metasomal tergite, and the longer ovipositor.
Description. Female. Body length about 5.4 mm. Fore wing length 3.4 mm.
Head strongly rounded behind eyes in dorsal view; temple 0.48× as long as eye width. Mandible strongly tapered in basal half; upper tooth distinctly longer than lower tooth. Clypeus moderately broad, about 2.4× as broad as high ( Fig. 46 View FIGURES 40 – 46 ), lenticular, flat or slightly convex in lateral view, smooth, distinctly punctate on its upper 0.6. Malar space about 0.4–0.5× as long as basal width of mandible. Flagellum of antenna narrowed towards apex, with 22–26 flagellomeres (24 flagellomeres in holotype); flagellomeres elongate, sometimes mid and subapical flagellomeres subsquare. Inner eye orbits very weakly convergent ventrally. Face with central prominence. Face and frons finely and densely punctate over finely granulate, dull surface. Vertex and temple finely granulate (temple centrally almost smooth), dull, with very fine (sometimes indistinct) punctures.
Notaulus as tubercle distant from anterolateral margin of mesoscutum or as weak wrinkle extending from anterolateral margin of mesoscutum. Mesoscutum finely granulate, with very fine and dense punctures. Scutellum with lateral longitudinal carinae usually reaching its posterior end and joining posteriorly, but often lateral longitudinal carinae weak or vanishing in posterior half. Foveate groove of mesopleuron situated in anterior 0.7 of mesopleuron, wide and coarse, strongly oblique, with strong wrinkles anteriorly which usually reach anterior margin of mesopleuron. Mesopleuron finely granulate, finely and sometimes indistinctly punctate. Propodeum granulate, dorsolateral area very finely punctate, without wrinkles adjacent to carinae. Basal area of propodeum broad, 1.3–2.0× as long as broad (1.9× in holotype), 0.7× as long as apical area; basal longitudinal carinae well developed, subparallel or weakly diverging anteriorly. Propodeal spiracle separated from pleural carina by 1.0– 1.5× diameter of spiracle. Apical area flat, anteriorly truncate.
Fore wing with veins Rs +2 r and Rs angled about 105°. Vein 2 rs-m about 1.5× as long as abscissa of M between 2 rs-m and 2 m-cu. Hind wing with cu 1& cu-a subvertical. Hind femur 4.55× as long as broad, 0.82× as long as tibia.
First tergite slender, 4.2× as long as posteriorly broad, smooth, petiole laterally striate. Glymma situated near middle of tergite 1, joining by fine furrow to ventral part of postpetiole. Second tergite 2.1× as long as anteriorly broad. Thyridial depression more than 4.0× as long as broad. Ovipositor weakly upcurved, with shallow dorsal subapical depression; sheath 1.8× as long as first tergite and hind tibia.
Head black; clypeus reddish brown in its lower 0.4 and black in upper part ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 16 – 19 ); palpi and mandible (teeth black) yellow. Antenna brownish basally to black apically, scape and pedicel ventrally usually yellowish. Mesosoma (including tegula) brownish orange, propleuron and anterior margin of pronotum sometimes slightly yellowish. Legs brownish yellow, fore and mid coxae and trochanters whitish, hind femur sometimes brownish laterally, hind tibia usually slightly infuscate. Pterostigma brown to dark brown. Metasomal segment 1 brownish black. Metasoma behind tergite 1 predominantly dark brown, yellow ventrally, tergites 2+ pale dorsoposteriorly.
Male. Unknown.
Variation. One female from the Tortuguero National Park has the ovipositor sheath 2.3× as long as tergite 1 of metasoma whereas in other material it is 1.4–1.9× as long as tergite 1; this specimen is not included in the type series. The second tergite varies from 1.7 to 2.1× as long as broad anteriorly.
Etymology. Named after its similarity to S. orosia sp. nov.
