Figs. 21 View FIGURES 19 – 27. 19 – 27 , 97 View FIGURES 91 – 104. 91 – 92 .

Type locality. Northeastern Laos, Houa Phan province, Mt. Phou Pane, 20°13ˏ09–19˝ N 103°59ˏ 54˝–104°00ˏ03˝E, 1480–1510 m a.s.l.

Type material. Holotype ( NMPC), male, “LAOS-NE, Houa Phan prov., PHOU PANE Mt., 20°13ˏ09–19˝ N 103°59ˏ 54˝–104°00ˏ03˝E, 1480–1510 m, 22.iv.–14.v.2008, Vít. Kubáň leg. [white label, printed]”.

Description. Coloration ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 19 – 27. 19 – 27 ). Head sepia, mouthparts lemon yellow to sienna, antennae sooty. Thorax, abdomen and elytra sepia, femora sienna, tibiae and tarsi sepia.

Male. Eyes large and strongly protruding, head across eyes almost one third wider than pronotum, lateral sides of head behind eyes straight, converging posteriorly. Antennae almost reaching elytral midlength, antennomeres 4– 10 moderately flattened, 4–11 with small, oval semilustrous impression. Surface of head very finely imbricatepunctate, with fine, brown semierect pubescence, matt. Pronotum moderately wider than long, anterior margin slightly convex, anterior corners obtusely rounded, lateral margins very slightly convex, nearly parallel, posterior corners obtuse, posterior margin convex. Surface of pronotum with distinct mediolongitudinal carina between two bulges, finely punctate and semilustrous in middle of pronotum, rest of pronotal surface sculptured and pubescent like that of head, matt. Protibiae moderately and regularly curved, mesotibiae strongly curved in dorsal view and sinuate in lateral view ( Fig. 97 View FIGURES 91 – 104. 91 – 92 ), metatibiae nearly straight. Elytra parallel-sided, elytral venation absent. Surface of elytra finely rugulose-lacunose, with fine, brown semierect pubescence, matt, nearly velvety. Aedeagus very similar to that of S. bezdeki (see Švihla 2004).

Female unknown.

Length (male). 7.9 mm.

Differential diagnosis. Stenothemus distortus sp. nov. resembles S. bezdeki , especially its dark form (they both occur at the same locality), by its body form and shape of the aedeagus, but it differs in the head being less narrowed behind eyes, comparatively shorter pronotum and, especially, by curved pro- and mesotibiae. The aedeagi of the two species are almost identical.

Etymology. Latin distortus = curved, named in the reference of its curved mesotibiae.

Distribution. Northeastern Laos.
