Subfamily RHIZOPINAE Stimpson, 1858 View in CoL
Remarks. Rathbun (1909: 112) established Typhlocarcinopsinae for Typhlocarcinops , arguing that the wide male first pleonal somite that reaches to the base of the ambulatory legs is a diagnostic character (see also Rathbun 1910: 345). As noted in Ng e t al. (2008), the correct spelling for the subfamily name should be Typhlocarcinopinae . Tesch (1918) argued that the wide male pleonal somite was not sufficient to establish a new subfamily and retained the genus within the Rhizopinae Stimpson, 1858 (see also Ng 1987; Ng et al. 2008).
