Discomyza incurva ( Fallén, 1823) View in CoL
( Fig. 2–3 View FIGURES 2–3 )
Psilopa incurva Fallén, 1823: 6 View in CoL .
Discomyza incurva: Meigen 1830: 76 View in CoL [generic combination]; Bergenstamm 1864: 713–716 [natural history, larva in dead snail, Helix pomatia L. ( Helicidae View in CoL )]; Franz 1989: 264 [larvae reared from snails: Aegopis verticillus (Férussac) (Zonitidae) View in CoL and Arianta arbustorum View in CoL (L.) ( Helicidae View in CoL )]; Zatwarnicki & Mathis 2007: 250–258 [revision].
Specimens examined. 1 ♂, Asir, Abha, Hay Al-Nusub ( Abha Farm Centre), 20. iv. 2013, Malaise trap, H.A. Dawah ( CERS) ; 2 ♀, same but, 1–25. v. 2013 ( CERS) .
Distribution. This is the first record from Saudi Arabia and Arabian Peninsula. This species was described from Sweden (Uplandia and Esperöd). Widespread in Europe, from southern Sweden to North Africa and east to Russia and the Caucasus, it is also recorded from Japan. It is also known from Nearctic Canada. In Britain, it is usually found on dunes where its larvae develop in dead snails.
Remarks. Deeming (1995) reported that in UK he reared it from the grove snail or brown-lipped snail Cepaea nermoalis L. ( Helicidae ).
