To 5 cm (2 in) SL ( Kotlyar 2010). Southern California (33°23’N, 118°47’W) (Personal communication: Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History Fish Collection, Los Angeles, California) to Chile ( Sielfeld et al. 1995). Mesopelagic and bathypelagic; depth: primarily 150 to perhaps 2,000 m (495–6,560 ft) (min.: Sandknop and Watson in Moser 1996; max.: Aizawa in Nakabo 2002). Previously thought to be the circumglobal species Poromitra megalops (Lütken, 1877) , Kotlyar (2010) referred to eastern and some central Pacific Ocean individuals as P. jucunda , and Indian Ocean and western and some central Pacific Ocean individuals as Poromitra macrophthalma (Gilchrist, 1903) .
