Circumglobal; western Pacific Ocean north to Japan (Aizawa in Nakabo 2002) and southeast of Kuril Islands ( Parin 2003); Santa Barbara (34°24’N, 119°45’W), southern California (Personal communication: Santa Barbara Natural History Museum Fish Collection, Santa Barbara, California) to Chile, including Gulf of California and Islas Galápagos ( Miller and Lea 1972). Benthic; depth: surface (nightlight: 52-415), intertidal to 135 m (443 ft) (min.: Arndt and Fricke 2019; max.: Ralston et al. 1986).
