This eucnemid species was previously known from Belize, Cuba, Guatemala and Mexico. In the United States, D. excavata were found in Arkansas, Texas ( Muona 2000; Otto 2011b) and taken for the first time in Missouri. Two specimens were taken from Lindgren funnel traps.
