Distribution. Western Atlantic— Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Brazil (Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo) ( Coelho & Ramos-Porto 1987; Rieger 1998; Melo 1999; Rahayu 2005; Coelho et al. 2007; Fransozo et al. 2011).

Remarks. Despite the wide distribution in Brazil, Paguristes calliopsis has very few records in collections and publications, and little is known regarding its biology ( Biagi et al. 2006). These factors indicate that further investigation on this species is required. In addition, small individuals are frequently misidentified as Paguristes tortugae , which is the phylogenetically closest species in the region ( Mantelatto et al. 2006).
