Euxanthus rugosus Miers, 1884 View in CoL *
( Fig. 2D View FIGURE 2 )
Material examined. 1 juvenile male (10.3 x 6.8 mm) ( DABFUK), Kavaratti, 7 January 2013 .
Remarks. A new record for Lakshadweep. The present specimen of E. rugosus is a juvenile, but it already has the rugosities on the areolae of the dorsal surface of the carapace and the prominent outwardly directed projection on the carpus of the cheliped, a character typical for the species (cf. Guinot-Dumortier 1960; Serene 1984). The only other Indian record of E. rugosus is that of Dev Roy & Nandi (2012) from the Nicobar and Andaman Islands. Given the similarity of the present species with E. exsculptus (Herbst, 1790) , previous records of E. exsculptus by Rao et al. (1989) and Bakus (1994) will need to be verified.
