Cryptophyllus sp. P2

(Pl. II: Fig. 13)

? 1964 Cryptophyllus sp. 3; Magne: pl. 21, figs. 94–96. 2013 Cryptophyllus sp. P2; Maillet: 98, pl. XII, fig. 22.

Material. 21 specimens (4 C, 10 V, 7 F).

Description. Medium-sized elongated carapace, asymmetric and sub-oval in lateral view. Moult retention ostracod with at least 4 large exuviae. Almost straight dorsal margin. Rounded umbo prominent over dorsal margin at 2/5 anterior. Anterior cardinal angle of about 160°. Posterior one of about 150°. Free margins of the carapace well rounded, more convex in anterior and posterior parts. Anterior part of the carapace slightly higher than the posterior one. Hmax at 2/5 anterior; Lmax at 1/3 dorsal; Wmax clearly dorsal and slightly anterior (umbo). Overlap of the valves unknown. Surface smooth.

Discussion. With their elongated carapace, these specimens maybe compared with Cryptophyllus sp. 3 of Magne (1964), from the Middle and Upper Givetian of the Ardenne and the Boulonnais. In our specimens, the umbo is however less prominent over the dorsal margin. The bad preservation of exuviae makes any species identification difficult.

Occurrence. Middle Givetian (Candás Fm, mbs B and C), Asturias (Peran-Perlora section).
