Centris (Trachina) proxima Friese, 1899 View in CoL

Centris proxima Friese, 1899b: 45 View in CoL [New lectotype designation]

Centris proxima View in CoL lectotype (♂, Figs 25–28 View FIGURES 25 – 28 ): Friese described this species based on five or more specimens from Brazil. No specimens from the syntype series were seen in ZMBH (e.g., from Santa Leopoldina, Espirito Santo). A single male labeled “ Brasil / Jundiahy / 16.ii.1899 / Schrottky” [printed, except date and month], “ Centris View in CoL ♂ / proxima View in CoL F. / 1900 Friese det. [printed] / Type ” is therefore here designated as the lectotype. The lectotype specimen was collected by Curt Schrottky and formed part of the early bee study by Schrottky from Brazil, São Paulo, Jundiaí ( Rasmussen et al. 2009). Centris proxima View in CoL has been considered a junior synonymon of C. dentata Smith, 1854 View in CoL (e.g., Snelling 1984; Azevedo & Silveira 2005), but following Moure et al. (2007) is here considered a distinct and valid species.
