Synonyms: Arrenurus hofsteni Walter, 1910 ; Arrenurus sinuator commutatus Viets, 1930
Type material: Holotype ( Barrois & Moniez 1887), possibly not deposited in any scientific collection.
Type locality: Northern France, in Pont-à-Vendin ( Barrois & Moniez 1887) .
Geographical distribution: Western Palaearctic ( Gerecke et al. 2016).
Distribution in Portugal: Centre: Beira Alta ( Valdecasas 1988), in Côa River, near 10 km to Vilar Formoso ( Lundblad 1956).
Ecological notes: In fresh to oligohaline waters, being a eutrophication-tolerant species. Larval insect hosts: Diptera Chaoboridae , Chironomidae and Culicidae ( Gerecke et al. 2016) ; present in Myriophyllum spp. and Juncus spp. ( Lundblad 1956) .
