Diagnosis. Shield slightly longer than broad; anterior margins straight between rostrum and lateral projections. Antennular peduncle not overreaching cornea. Ambulatory legs with sparse short setae; propodi with single longitudinal dark stripe on lateral face bordered by light stripe of similar width on either side.
Distribution. Western Atlantic—Florida, Antilles, Venezuela, north of South America and Brazil (from Ceará to Santa Catarina).
Remarks. Clibanarius sclopetarius and C. vittatus are very close morphologically, and very difficult to distinguish, when totally discolored.
