Type species. Dardanus hellerii Paulson, 1875 .
Diagnosis. Fourteen pairs of gills with entire lamellae. Frontal margin rounded at median region; rostrum absent. Ocular peduncles stout, ocular scales large and short widely separated. Antennal flagellum with very short setae. Third maxilliped with well developed crista dentata. Chelipeds usually subequal, left larger than right; fingers with corneous claw. Males with unpaired pleopods (pl2–pl5) with rudimentary inner ramous. Females with unpaired pleopods (pl2–pl4 triramous) and pl5 very short with rudimentary inner ramus.
