Medial part of idiosoma with 3 pairs of dorso-median setae: dm1 serrated, 10 long; dm2 filiform, 40 long; dm3 serrated and slightly apically expanded, 60 long. Postero-lateral part of idiosoma with 2 pairs of apically expanded setae with minute spicules on apical part, 30–40 long. Eyes present. Venter ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 B) with 3 pairs of smooth ventro-median setae: vm1–vm3 (in holotype and 1 paratype additional unpaired seta vm4 observed). Genital slit situated mainly ventrally. Genital series represented by 4 pairs of spin-like setae g1–g4; all genital setae subequal in length, 20–25 long. Pseudoanal setal series represented by 6 pairs of setae: ps1 smooth or very slightly serrated, 25 long, ps2–6 paddle-shaped, 45–70 long, with minute spicules on apical margin. Legs. Coxal setation: 1a, 1b, 2b, 3a, 3b arranged in formula 2–1–2–0, all setae filiform; setae of trochanters I–IV (1–1– 1–1), femora I–IV (3–1–1–1), genua I–IV (2–0–0–0), tibiae I–IV (5–3–3–3). All setae on each segment filiform, except for slightly plumose setae: v”FI and dFII–III. Setation of tarsi: I 13 setae (ft, tc’, tc”, p’, p”, a’, a”, it’, it”, u’, u”, vs’, vs”) and solenidion ω 1; II 8 setae (tc’, p’, p”, it’, it”, u’, u”, vs’) and ω 1; III and IV with 8 setae each (tc’, p’, p”, it’, it”, u’, u”, vs’). Setae tc’, tc”, a’, a” of leg I represented by eupathidia, p’ and p” fan-like. Setae tc’ of legs II–IV and setae it’, it”, u’, u”, vs’, vs” of legs I–IV smooth.
MALE (2 paratypes, Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 ). Gnathosoma as in female. Cheliceral base and shaft 45 long. Fixed cheliceral digit short (about 5 long) with spinous process. Hypostome 55 long with smooth rounded apex. Free lateral part of peritremal branch about 5–10 long. Idiosoma 230–255 long, 465–510 wide. Dorsum ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 A) with 3 groupings of serrated setae: 16–17 pairs of antero-lateral setae, 10–20 long; 4 pairs of medio-lateral setae, 25–40 long and 3 pairs of dorso-median setae: dm1 25 long; dm2–dm3 about 35 long. Eyes present. Aedeagus about 110 long, directed forward; genital anal opening with 2 pairs of filiform setae. Venter ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 B) with 3 pairs of ventro-median setae: vm1 filiform, vm2–vm3 slightly serrated. Legs as in female.
DEUTONYMPH (1 paratype, Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 ). Gnathosoma as in female. Cheliceral base and shaft 70 long. Fixed cheliceral digit 20 long, with spinous process. Movable cheliceral digit with basal spur. Palpal femur and genu with smooth setae each, about 20 long. Free lateral part of peritremal branch about 15 long. Hypostome 95 long, with slightly flattened apex. Idiosoma 355 long and 555 wide. Dorsum ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 A). Anterior part of idiosoma with 23 pairs of slightly serrated setae, about 20 long, arranged in 2 groups: mesial group of 16 setae, lateral group of 7 setae. Below the lateral group 2 pairs of fine-pointed slightly serrated setae, 20–30 long, present. Medial part of idiosoma with 4 pairs of dorso-median setae: dm1–dm3 slightly serrated, about 25, 35 and 40 long, respectively, setae dm4 slightly apically expanded, 50–55 long. Venter ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 B) with 3 pairs of ventro-median setae: vm1–vm2 filiform, vm3 slightly serrated. Type material. Female holotype and 4 female paratypes from Pseudotrapelus dhofarensis Melnikov and Pierson ( CAS 227594), OMAN: Dhofar, Ayoon, 17º15’N, 53º54’E, 13 Jul 2003, coll. T. J. Papenfuss; 4 female, 1 deutonymph and 2 male paratypes from same host ( ZISP 26979–26982), OMAN: Mirbat, 16º57’N 54º41’E, February 2013, coll. R. A. Nazarov.
Type deposition. Holotype, 4 female, 1 deutonymph and 1 male paratypes in ZISP, 3 female and 1 male paratypes in AMU (AMU–PTE11.1).
Etymology. The name dhofarensis refers to the species name of the host.
Differential diagnosis. This new species is similar to P. sinaita Jack, 1961 from Pseudotrapelus sinaitus Heyden and Trapelus mutabilis Merrem from and Arabian Peninsula and Egypt. In females of both these species the eyes are present, arrangement of the dorsal setae and setation of genua II–III and tarsi, tibiae, femora, trochanters I–IV are the same, setae dG are longer than dF, the antero-dorsal setae are slightly serrated, the genital slit is situalted mainly ventrally and the genital series is represented by four pairs of setae g and six pairs of the pseudoanal setae ps. This new species differs from P. sinaita by the following features: in female of P. dhofarensis setae dm1 are serrated and setae dm2 are filiform, three or four pairs of the medio-lateral setae and two pairs of the peripheral setae are present, setae dGI are absent. In females of P. sinaita , setae dm1 are filiform and setae dm2 are flattened, five or six pairs of the latero-median setae and three pairs of the peripheral setae are present, setae dGI are present.
