Filistata polita Franganillo, 1936: 37 View in CoL , figs 15‒16 (Syntypes male and female from Cuba, Pastor Alayo and F. Balboa col., deposited in IES 53 and 54 respectively, examined).
Filistatoides insignis: Alayón, 1972: 7 View in CoL ‒8, figs 4‒5 (syn. with F. polita View in CoL , misidentification).
Note. Filistata polita was synonymized with Filistatoides insignis by Alayón (1972), who not examined the types. We examined the types of Filistatoides insignis and compared them with the types of F. polita Franganillo (1936, fig. 16) that were recently located in the IES collection. The male palps, of Filistata polita types resemble those of Filistatoides insignis by the presence of the cylindrical palpal tibiae without a dorsal-retrolateral projection, which is diagnostic to the genus Filistatoides ; but can be distinguished by its strongly curved embolus ( Figs 3C‒D View FIGURE 3 A ‒ E , 6C View FIGURE 6 A ‒ H , 8E‒F View FIGURE 8 A ‒ J. A ‒ D ) with many projections on the tip ( Fig. 6E‒H View FIGURE 6 A ‒ H ). Moreover, additional material examined from several Cuban localities provided only specimens assignable to Filistata polita which seems to be endemic to this island. Therefore, we are revalidating this species and transferring it to Filistatoides .

Diagnosis. Filistatoides polita can be distinguished from other species by the strongly curved embolus ( Figs 3C‒D View FIGURE 3 A ‒ E , 6C View FIGURE 6 A ‒ H , 8E‒F View FIGURE 8 A ‒ J. A ‒ D ) with many projections on the tip ( Fig. 6E‒H View FIGURE 6 A ‒ H ). Females can be distinguished by the elongate base of the spermathecae with thicker necks than in other species ( Figs 3E View FIGURE 3 A ‒ E , 8G View FIGURE 8 A ‒ J. A ‒ D ).
