Distribution. Western Atlantic—USA (Florida), Gulf of Mexico, Antilles, Caribbean Sea, north of South America, and Brazil (Pernambuco, Sergipe, Bahia, São Paulo, Santa Catarina) ( Coelho & Ramos 1972; Powers 1977; Abele & Kim 1986; Almeida et al. 2007b; Felder et al. 2009; Mendonça et al. 2019).
Remarks. Previous records on the coast of São Paulo include Ubatuba ( Alves et al. 2012b, 2013b), Ilha Vitória ( Alves et al. 2012a), São Vicente ( Thoma et al. 2014), and Ilha Anchieta ( Mantelatto et al. 2004a).
