Planes minutus ( Linnaeus, 1758) View in CoL
Nautilograpsus major MacLeay, 1838: 66 .
Material examined. Brazil, São Paulo: 1 ♀, CCDB 2286 View Materials , Ilhabela, Praia do Engenho d’Água , colls. F. Mantelatto & L. Schejter, 25.vi.2007 .
Distribution. Western Atlantic—Brazil (Pará, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Pernambuco, Bahia, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul), Uruguay, and Argentina. Eastern Atlantic—Tropical Africa. Eastern Pacific—Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile. Indo-Pacific ( Chace 1951; Garth 1957; Haig 1968; Fausto-Filho 1968 as P. minutus ; Powers 1977; Manning & Holthuis 1981; Lemaitre & León 1992; Melo 1996; Prado & Melo 2002; Carranza et al. 2003; Almeida & Coelho 2008; Diele et al. 2010 with most of the literature as P. cyaneus ).
Remarks. During our previous study on decapods of São Paulo ( Mantelatto et al. 2018a) we identified the material cited above as P. major and during the present work, after double checked and comparison with new sequences deposited in the global data base, we realized that our specimen matched 100% with the P. minutus . According to Prado & Melo (2002) the genus Planes Bowdich, 1825 is represented in Brazilian waters by two species, Planes cyaneus and P. marinus Rathbun, 1914 and these authors listed some individuals from São Sebastião, Bertioga, and Itanhaém identified as P. cyaneus . However, according to WoRMS (2020) the species P. cyaneus and P. major are accepted as P. minutus ; unfortunately we have not analyzed the material from São Paulo reported by Prado & Melo (2002), but we suspect that specimens belong to P. minutus and that they should be analized to confirm the identification. Sequences accession number (GenBank): CCDB 2286—16S ( MF490209 View Materials ), COI ( MF490112 View Materials ) ( Mantelatto et al. 2018a as Planes major ).
