Description

Adult male. Idiosoma ovoid; length 1500 µm, maximum width 950 µm. Sejugal furrow present. Hysteronotum about twice as long as prodorsum.

Prodorsum. Much wider than long. Prodorsal plate poorly defined due to over-maceration of the specimen, about as long as wide, with 14 pairs of lanceolate setae each side, ca 60 µm long. Crista metopica linear, rod-like, 287 µm long, widest anteriorly, ca 30 µm. Four pairs of lanceolate setae posterolateral to prodorsal plate (one of them laterad of eyes), each on a platelet, ca 75 µm long. Prodorsal lateral plates absent. Eye plates 95 x 50 µm, diameter of eyes 32 µm.

Hysterosomal dorsum. Hysterosomal segmentation obscured in this over-macerated specimen. C row with medial setae each on a platelet, but lateral setae clustered on a pair of large plates; setae 70–80 µm long, all slightly lanceolate. D–E row similar to C row. H row with setae over 100 µm long.

Idiosomal venter. Intercoxal area of leg I with 14 short setae (ca 60 µm long; posterolateral pair the longest, 1a over 100 µm long), intercoxal area of leg II with four pairs of setae. Intercoxal area of leg III with ca 13 pairs of setae and that of leg IV with numerous setae not separable from those anterior to genital area. Coxal I with 29–32 setae. Coxa II with 24–25 setae. Coxa III with 20–21 setae. Coxa IV with 20–23 setae. Opisthoventer with numerous short setiform setae similar to coxal setae. Genital opening 230 µm long. A pair of central valves each bearing six setae (45 µm long). A pair of lateral valves each bearing 10 or 11 setae of similar size. Eugenital setae three pairs, all nude, setiform (ca 30 µm long). Anal opening 200 µm long, its valves each with three pairs of setae (45 µm long).

Legs. Lengths of legs in decreasing order: leg I> leg IV> leg III> leg II.

Leg I 1465 µm. Trochanter I with 18–19 setulose setae. Basifemur I 190 µm, with numerous setulose setae. Telofemur I 235 µm with numerous setulose setae and one distal solenidion. Genu I 270 µm, with numerous setulose setae, two solenidia and one microseta (35 µm long). Tibia I 290 long, with numerous setulose setae and solenidia, and one microseta (33 µm long). Tarsus I over twice as long (380 µm) as wide (150 µm), with many setulose setae and solenidia.

Leg II 920 µm. Trochanter II with 13–14 setae. Basifemur II 140 long, with numerous setulose setae and one subdistal solenidion. Telofemur II 145 µm long with numerous setulose setae and a distal solenidion. Genu II 156 µm long, with numerous setulose setae, two solenidia and one distal microseta (32 µm long). Tibia II 168 µm long, with numerous setulose setae and two solenidia. Tarsus II 225 µm long, with numerous setulose setae, four dorsal solenidia, one famulus (13 µm long), one ventral solenidion and two distal eupathidia.

Leg III 1050 µm. Trochanter III with 20–21 setulose setae. Basifemur III 165 µm long with numerous setae. Telofemur III 145 µm long with numerous setulose setae and a distal solenidion. Genu III 180 µm long, with numerous setulose setae and three solenida. Tibia III 210 µm long, with numerous setulose setae and two solenidia. Tarsus III 260 µm long, with numerous setulose setae and two solenidia.

Leg IV 1390 µm. Trochanter IV with 29 setae. Basifemur IV 200 µm long with numerous setae. Telofemur IV 180 µm long with numerous setae and a distal solenidion (40 µm long). Genu IV 250 µm long with numerous setulose setae and four solenidia. Tibia IV 295 µm long with numerous setulose setae and four solenidia. Tarsus IV 300 µm long with many setulose setae and 1 solenidion.

Gnathosoma . Subcapitulum smooth with two pairs of adoral setae and a pair of subcapitular setae. Adoral: setae or1 40 µm, or2 10 µm, or3 40 µm. Subcapitular setae 60 µm.

Cheliceral base 160 µm long, cheliceral blade 88 µm long.

Palp 680 µm long. Palptrochanter with 2 setae, 80 µm and 100 µm long. Palpfemur with 11 setae. Palpgenu with 16 setae. Palptibia with 16 nude setae, a strong terminal seta (i.e. tibial claw, 45 µm long) and a ventral enlarged seta (35 µm) near base of tibial claw. Ratio of tibial length excluding tibial claw to maximum width 3.0. Palptarsus with a basal solenidion (18 µm long), two nude setiform setae, and six terminal eupathidia (22 µm long).

Etymology

After the name of the forest at the type locality; a noun in apposition.

Holotype male, New Zealand, BP: Orete Forest, Te Puia Hut, 19 Oct to 23 Nov. 1992, pit trap, G. Hall.

Remarks

This new species is similar to A. williamsi sp. nov. Key differences between this species and A. williamsi sp. nov. and A. winksi sp. nov. are presented table 1.
