Tianyuprosbole View in CoL gen. nov.

Type species. Tianyuprosbole zhengi gen. et sp. nov., here designated.

Diagnosis. Body small and stout. Antennae well-developed; scape thick; pedicel slightly thinner and longer than scape; flagellum aristiform. Eyes large, semi-circular in lateral view. Postclypeus greatly inflated. Pronotum exceedingly expanded and concealing mesonotum, with posterior two-thirds transversely rugose. Fore femur slightly thick; hind tibia slender and long.

Tegmen short, nearly trapezoid. Clavus and costal area long and broad. Postnodal area ornamented with ruffles, short, almost half as long as prenodal area. Nodal line wide but not well-defined. Nodus distinct. Vein ScP fused with R+M at wing base, dividing from ScP + RA at nodal line, and ending at nodus. Stem R+M branching at basal 0.21 wing length. Vein R about 0.10 wing length and two-branched; vein RA two-branched; vein RP single, strongly curved at nodal line. Vein M fused with CuA for a distance about 0.10 wing length, branching into M1+2 and M3+4 at basal 0.48 wing length; Veins M1+2 and M3+4 branching into M1, M2, M3, and M4 nearly at the same level. Vein CuA nearly straight, but curved just beyond nodal line and then branching into CuA1 and CuA2; branch CuA1 curved at crossvein m-cua and recurved near tegmen margin; branch CuA2 long and sinuous. Vein CuP straight, ending at nodal line. Vein Pcu ending at about midpoint of wing. Vein A1 longitudinal.

Etymology. The generic name refers to Shandong Tianyu Museum of Nature, where the specimen is housed, and –prosbole, a common suffix for the genera of the subfamily Cicadoprosbolinae Becker-Migdisova, 1947.

Species included. Only the type species, Tianyuprosbole zhengi gen. et sp. nov.

Remarks. The genus undoubtedly belongs to the family Tettigarctidae s.l. on the following characteristics: postclypeus greatly inflated; pronotum expanded, with posterior area transversely rugose; nodal line of tegmen visible; branch RA forked and RP single; vein M four-branched, forming a short stalk with two-branched CuA; vein CuP, Pcu, and A1 simple.

The tegmen of Tianyuprosbole gen. nov. is similar to that of Cicadoprosbole Becker-Migdisova, 1947 ( Becker-Migdisova, 1947; Evans, 1956), the type genus of the subfamily Cicadoprosbolinae. It differs from the latter in possessing vein RA bifurcated, vein M and CuA fused as a short stalk for tegmen. The new genus can be distinguished from other genera within the subfamily Cicadoprosbolinae in the following features of the tegmen: wing shape nearly trapezoid; vein RA having two terminations; vein M forked far away from nodal line, and fourbranched; branch CuA2 long and sinuous. Furthermore, it is distinctly different from the genera of the subfamily Tettigarctinae in having a broad costal area and clavus on tegmen.
