Diagnosis. Dasyproctus can be identified by the following set of characters: 1) female with notched clypeus; 2) distinct verticaulus; 3) female pygidial plate narrowed and concave apically; 4) hind tibia with spines; 5) frontal area mostly with a transverse arched interocular carina; 6) anterior bordering carina on pronotal collar ( Bohart & Menke 1976; Bennett 2010).

Prey. Preys on dipteran families of Chloropidae , Dolichopodidae , Hybotidae , Lauxaniidae , Lonchaeidae , Otitidae , Milichiidae , Muscidae , Pallopteridae , Platystomatidae , Simuliidae , Sphaeroceridae , Stratiomyidae , Tachinidae , Tephritidae and Trypetidae ( Bowden 1964; Bohart & Menke 1976; Binoy et al. 2021).

Distribution. Afrotropical ( Leclercq 1990, 1991, 2015); Asia, Australia, and Oceania ( Leclercq 1956, 1957, 1972, 2015; Tsuneki 1976, 1977, 1983, 1984; Binoy et al. 2021; Yue et al. 2021); Palaearctic ( Terayama & Suda 2014).
