Polydora aggregata Blake, 1969 View in CoL
Polydora aggregata Blake, 1969:16 View in CoL , figs 12–15.—Blake, 1971: 8, figs 4–6. Maciolek, 1984b: 128 –129. Polydora cf. aggregata View in CoL .— Johnson, 1984: 6.24–6.26, figs 6.15–6.16.
Type locality. Maine: Lamoine Beach State Park; Boothbay Harbor region, Ocean Point, USA.
Type material. Holotype ( USNM 42246), paratypes ( USNM 42247–8).
Records. USA: off southern Texas, 37 m, silt-clay-sand ( Johnson 1984).
Remarks. Johnson (1984) mentions that his specimen closely resembles the description of Polydora aggregata given by Blake (1971), in pigmentation, nature of the first and fifth chaetigers, and the heavy spines and hooded hooks; however, no clear, ciliated groove bordering the caruncle could be found and the caruncle extends past chaetiger 2. The presence of this species in the Grand Caribbean is questionable. It is necessary to re-examined Johnson's specimen (1984), and collect more specimens that can be examined and compared with type material.
