Description. Adult ( Fig. 57 ) wingspan 11.0̄13.0 mm.

Male genitalia: As in Figs. 123 , 179 and 235 .

Female genitalia: As in Fig. 281 .

Variation. In specimens from Xizang the forewing is tinged with blackish fuscous along the basal 1/3 of the costa, and the inverted V-shaped black pattern barely reaches the termen ( Fig. 57 ).

Host plants: Malus baccata (Linn.) Borkh. , M. sieboldii (Regel) Rehder , M. pumila Miller (Rosaceae) ; Corylus avellana Linn. (Betulaceae) ( Moriuti 1977. Liu 1981. Agassiz 1996).

Biology: Descriptions and illustrations of larval characters can be found in Moriuti (1977), and brief notes on the life history are presented by Agassiz (1996).

Distribution. China (Beijing, Gansu, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Xizang), Europe, Russia, Japan, Korea.

Diagnosis. This species is characterized by the forewing having an inverted V-shaped blackish fuscous pattern on distal 2/3. The diagnosis is given under A. (A.) basistriata , sp. nov.
