Morphological characters. Gena with setulae only yellow/white. Occiput with setulae only yellow/white in males, but with at least one row of black setulae behind the ocular setae, with setulae only yellow/white ventrally in females. Prescutellar acrostichal setae present. Proepisternum uniformly setulose, with setulae only black. Males with long setulae on the hind tibia. 1st and 2nd abdominal sternites in females with short setulae. In males, median patch of dense setae present at the base of the 4th abdominal sternite. Body length 10–15 mm.

Geographical distribution. Australia (New South Wales, Queensland)—AUSTRALASIAN/OCEANIAN.

Biology. Sarcophaga zeta has been collected at decayed meat-baits ( Johnston & Tiegs 1921).

Taxonomy. DNA barcode sequences of S. zeta have been deposited in both GenBank and BOLD.
