Material examined.— Canada: Québec: Gatineau; Aylmer, Musée Canadien de la Nature back yard [45°23’N, 75°50’W] 13.–20.vi.1999, pitfall in poplar forest, 1Ψ, N. Dupérré ( CPAD); Gatineau; Aylmer, Musée Canadien de la Nature back yard [45°23’N, 75°50’W] 19.–25.viii.1999, pitfall in poplar forest, 1Ψ, N. Dupérré ( CPAD); Gatineau; Aylmer, Musée Canadien de la Nature back yard [45°23’N, 75°50’W] 29.vii.–04.viii.1999, pitfall in poplar forest, 1Ψ, N. Dupérré ( CPAD); Gatineau; Aylmer, Musée Canadien de la Nature back yard [45°23’N, 75°50’W] 19.–25.viii.1999, pitfall in conifer forest, 3Ψ, N. Dupérré ( CPAD).
Diagnosis.— This species differs from Clubiona spp. in having two or three prolateral macrosetae on femur I, ( Clubiona only have one). Males are distinguished by the minute blunt terminal embolus and the partly sclerotized tegulum. Females are distinguished from Clubiona spp by the scape of the epigynum (see Dondale & Redner 1982).
Distribution.— Nebraska to Nova Scotia, south to Texas and the West Indies (see Dondale & Redner 1982).
Remark.— The present records confirm the occurrence of the species in Québec, which was suspected by Paquin & Dupérré (2003, see figs 480–483). Dondale & Redner (1982) report that E. excepta is found under loose bark and among leaf litter of deciduous forest, and under stones. The present records confirm the affinities of the species for deciduous litter.
