Redescription (Fig. 20). Male. Body length 3.1mm. Arista densely plumose along basal 2/3. Setae (mostly missing) brown, but appearing yellowish against dark background. Ocellar seta similar in length to postvertical. Presutural intra-alar seta absent. Two dorsocentral setae. Acrostichal seta absent. Two pairs of lateral scutellar setae (evident from sockets). Head yellow with faint brownish spot around base of arista on outer surface, frons with subtriangular spot enclosing ocellar tubercle that extends onto dorsomedial margin of back of head, face brownish between antennal bases, and gena and occiput slightly paler; gena silvery-tomentose; face with shallow medial carina that is more pronounced dorsally. Scutum dark brown postsuturally excluding paler anterolateral margin along suture, with wide medial stripe nearly attaining anterior margin, and notopleuron light brown; darker striped areas noted in Sasakawa (2011) due to underlying muscle attachment. Scutellum and metanotum dark brown. Pleuron yellow with anepisternum and anepimeron brown. Legs (mostly missing) yellow; leg reattached to point mount (either the fore or hind leg) with tibia light brown. Halter entirely pale. Wing dusky apically, becoming more darkly clouded anterior to R4+5. M1+2 ratio 3.7. Abdomen dark brown with epandrium darker and surstylus and cerci yellow.

Female. Unknown.

Variation: Male from Borneo badly damaged with most setae and all legs past coxae missing, but mostly agreeing with above description; notopleuron as darkly pigmented as postsutural region; mediotergite yellowish; annulus yellowish-orange; M1+2 ratio 3.2.

Male terminalia. ( Sasakawa 2011: figs 9–11) As described for S. cycla except hypandrium with one pair of large medial setae, pregonite sclerotized and bare, and apex of paraphallus slightly broader.
