Lactistomyia mammifera Curran View in CoL

( Figs. 15–19 View FIGURES 15 – 19 , 57 View FIGURES 54 – 63 )

Lactistomyia mammifera Curran, 1931:7 View in CoL ; Smith, 1967:14 (catalogue).

Diagnosis. Wing brown with apical and anal margins pale brown, cell r1 brown, stigma concolorous with r1; hind femur very swollen with 12 short anteroventral spines with developed basal tubercles, basal tubercle of tenth spine approximately 3 times length of ninth tubercle, two apical spines inserted on doubled tubercles; ventral row with 1 spine in the middle and 2 on distal quarter; posteroventral row with 3–4 spines on basal quarter; hind tibia remarkably curved with soft longitudinal furrow and 1 greatly developed ventral tubercle near base; hypandrium split apically with two subequal lobes.

Holotype male. Body: 5.7 mm Wing: 5.0 mm.

Redescription. Antenna brown; pedicel with short bristles; postpedicel about twice longer than wide, slightly longer than scape and pedicel combined; arista 3 times length of antenna. Face narrow, black with pale brown pruinescence. Palpus brown, proboscis brownish red. Ocellar setae short, parallel, almost erect. Postcranium dark brown with mixed grayish brown pruinescence; postocular setae short, scattered, present on upper third; 4–5 occipital setae on mid-height of post-cranium and some setae on margin of buccal opening and foramen.

Thorax with brown pruinescence; scutum dark brown with pale brown lateral margins and post-pronotal lobe, postalar callus yellow; pleurae pale brown with some clearer areas on anterior margin of anepisternum, proepimeron and katepimeron. Bristles pale brown; pronotum with marginal bristles biserial in the middle and disordered and more numerous laterally; 1 robust npl; postalar callus setose but without differentiated bristle; scutellum with 1 preapical pair of robust widely spaced bristles, 3 thinner lateral pairs about one-half length of preapical pair and 1 thin apical bristle ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 15 – 19 ).

Fore and mid legs pale brown, hind leg brown, tarsomeres 5 of all tarsi dark brown. Bristles short, pale brown on fore and mid legs, brown on hind leg; mid tibia with longer bristles on posterior surface; fore and mid tarsi with yellow dense pilosity ventrally on tarsomeres 1 and 2. Hind femur very swollen. Hind tibia remarkably curved, anterior surface nude and flattened with longitudinal furrow, twice length of hind tarsus, with 1 greatly developed ventral tubercle on basal third ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 15 – 19 ). Hind tarsomere 1 as long as following tarsomeres combined; tarsomeres 2–4 very short. Outstanding bristles: fore tibia with 1 anteroventral and 1 posteroventral yellow short preapical bristles; fore tarsomere 1 with 1 dorsal in the middle and 2 dorsal preapical black thin bristles; mid tibia with 4 anterodorsal short bristles, 1 anterior, 1 anteroventral and 1 posterior preapical spine-like bristles short and 1 long ventral bristle reaching the half of tarsomere 1; mid tarsus with 3 anteroventral bristles on basal half, 1 anterodorsal in the middle and 1 anterodorsal preapical stronger than bristles of fore tarsus; hind trochanter with 1 black short and strong spine ventrally; hind femur with 12 short dark brown anteroventral spines inserted on very large basal tubercles, basal tubercle of tenth spine approximately 3 times length of ninth tubercle, 2 apical spines inserted on doubled tubercles; ventral row with 1 spine in the middle and 2 on distal quarter; posteroventral row irregular, not aligned, basal quarter with 3–4 short spines with truncated apex; hind tarsomere 1 with very short black inconspicuous anteroventral spines, and 1 short apical spine on tarsomeres 2 and 3.

Wing ( Fig. 57 View FIGURES 54 – 63 ): brown on basal two-thirds with apical and anal margins pale brown; costal cell as wide as cell r1, cell r1 totally brown, stigma brown, R4+5 and M1 convergent, anal lobe wide.

Abdomen dark brown, clearer on Tg1 and lateral margins, with brown pruinescence on all segments and 2 small shiny circular dorso-lateral spots on tergites 2–7. Bristles pale brown, long on lateral margin and short dorsally; Tg1 and Tg2 with lateral bristles distinctly longer; sternites with short bristles. Terminalia: hypandrium and epandrium with elongate thin pilosity; hypandrium pruinose just on distal half, with medium length, not surpassing the apex of left epandrial lamella, split apically with two subequal lobes ( Fig.16 View FIGURES 15 – 19 ); epandrium pruinose; left lamella with very long and strong preapical bristles, as long as the lamella; strong preapical bristles shorter on right lamella ( Fig. 17 View FIGURES 15 – 19 ); left surstylus short ( Fig. 18 View FIGURES 15 – 19 ), right surstylus like a spoon, with truncated apex.
