Dasymutilla cotulla Mickel, 1928 . U. S. Nat. Mus. Bull. 143:75. Holotype male, Cotulla , Texas, November 26, 1905 (F. C. Pratt) (No. 40721) [USNM] (examined).
Diagnosis of Male ( Plate C3O View PLATE 3 ). This species is diagnosed by the last sternite being distinctly dentate, the concave sternum II which may have a tiny pit filled with setae, and by having the head and mesosoma clothed with black setae.
Female. Unknown.
Distribution. USA (New Mexico, Texas); Mexico (Coahuila, Durango).
Remarks. This species is known only from the male. It is characterized by having the last sternite dentate, a character that it shares only with D. vestita . It is distinguished from the latter by the head and mesosoma being clothed with black setae.
This is a relatively common species. Approximately 40 to 50 specimens have been examined.
