Diagnostic characters. A. metica differs from other species by combination of the following characters: Male —m-cu at the same height r-m and f-cu, tergite IX with lateral tufts setae, gonostylus small and aedeagal complex with only basidorsal lobe; Pupa —apex of aeropyle tube club-shaped, thoracic horn with spines lateral and base, lumen with small circles, genital sac length; Larva —head capsule elongated, ligula teeth in concave arch, dorsal pore present, postoccipital margin with central projections, A 1 312–333 µm, procercus with 6 anal setae and posterior parapods with 2 claws brown.

Male (n = 5, unless otherwise stated): Dimensions: Total length 1.16–2.76 mm. Wing length 1.12–1.71 mm. Total length/wing length 1.51–2.46. Wing length/length of profemur 2.28–2.73.

Coloration ( Figs 51A–F View FIGURES 51 , 52A View FIGURES 52 ): wings, thorax and abdomen follow figures 51A, 51B and 51F. Legs: P I — femora with 3 bands, tibiae with 3 bands; P II —femora with 2 bands, tibiae with 3 bands; P III —femora with 1 band, tibiae with 3 bands. Ratio of bands, related tibiae and tarsomeres 1 follow table 38. Hypopygium: gonocoxite and gonostylus yellow.

Head: antenna with 14 flagellomeres; AR 1.24–1.47; apical flagellomere 97–154 µm long and subapical seta 20–23 µm long; temporals 30–31; postoculars 12; coronal triangle 100–126 µm long and base 78.5 µm (n=1); clypeus bearing 21–30 setae, 83 µm long and 77 µm wide; labrum with 2 setae, 77–98 µm long and 48 µm wide; tentorium 131–134 µm long; cibarial pump 236–280 µm long and orifice 50 µm from apex; palpomeres 1–5: 37–59; 60–92; 100–122; 103–130; 176–225 µm long; palpomere 3 with sensilla capitata 25 µm from base.

Wing ( Fig. 51A View FIGURES 51 ): width/lenght 0.31–0.36; VR 0.85–0.87; C 0.97–1.20 mm long; Sc 0.48–0.63 mm long; m-cu 26–30 µm long and 331–406 µm from arculus, m-cu at the same height r-m and f-cu; fr 387–468 µm from arculus; R 3 apex close to C; brachiolum with 3 setae; squama with 23–30 setae.

Thorax ( Fig. 51B View FIGURES 51 ): antepronotals 4–5; humerals 5; prealars 11; supraalar 1; scutelars 50–55.

Legs ( Fig. 51C–E View FIGURES 51 ): P I —apex of tibia 40–42 µm wide and with apical pectinated spur 33–47 µm long, spur ratio 0.60–0.71; tarsomeres 1–2 with 2 pseudospurs 48–57 µm long. P II —apex of tibia 40–42 µm wide and with 2 apical pectinated spurs 47–55 and 24–33 µm long, spur ratio 0.63–0.64 and 0.43–0.46 respectively; tarsomeres with 2 apical pseudospurs 51–63 µm long. P III —coxa with 5 central microsetae; apex of tibia 45–47 µm wide and with 2 apical pectinated spurs 52–56 and 33–43 µm long, spurs ratio 0.61–0.62 and 0.59–0.70 respectively; tarsomeres 1–3 with 2 or 3 apical pseudospurs 43–56 µm long. Hypopygium ( Fig. 52A–C View FIGURES 52 ): tergite IX with 1 central setae; anal point completely covers the aedeagal complex; phallapodeme 46–60 µm long; sternapodeme 77–89 µm long; gonocoxite 105–140 µm long and 64–73 µm wide; gonostylus 73–100 µm long, with 5 apical teeth; tapered megaseta; HR 1.10–1.86; HV 2.55–2.88. Aedeagal complex: aedeagal blade, dorsal lobe and lateral lobe absent; basidorsal lobe present.

Female: unknown.
