Physalis minima
Linnaeus
,
Species Plantarum
1
: 183. 1753
.
"Habitat in Indiae aridis sordidis." RCN: 1454.
Lectotype
(designated here by Edmonds): Herb. Clifford: 62,
Physalis
6 (
BM
)
.
Current name:
Physalis angulata
L.
(
Solanaceae
).
Note:
Heine (in
Aubreville
& Leroy,
Fl.
Nouvelle-Caledonie
7: 132. 1975) wrongly indicated Hermann material (BM) as
lectotype
but, in the absence of a reference in the protologue to
Linnaeus'
Flora Zeylanica
, this cannot be original material for this name. Heine took up
P. minima
in the sense of
P. lagascae
Roem. & Schult
, and was followed by a number of later authors. However, others have treated it as a synonym of
P. angulata
L.
(see Nicolson & al. in
Regnum Veg
119: 248. 1988), and this is confirmed by
Edmonds'
formal typification.
