Misspelled as “ L. anguila ” by Matis & Tirjaková (1992) and Tirjaková & Matis (1987) , and thus unavailable according to the Articles 33.3 and 33.5 of the ICZN (1999) . Main morphological characters (according to Song & Wilbert 1989 ). Length 150–300 µm in vivo . Body lanceolate with narrowly rounded posterior body end; 3–4 ribs on left side. Two macronuclear nodules with a single micronucleus in between. Contractile vacuole distinctly subterminal. Extrusomes rod-like, about 3–5 µm long, attached along whole length of oral bulge. Somatic ciliary pattern Litonotus -like; 10–12 right and about 5 left kineties. Distribution. Litonotus anguilla was recorded in submerged and wet mosses from Slovenský Raj at a frequency of about 1.9 and 1.5, respectively ( Tirjaková & Matis 1987 ); in the backwaters of the Danube River in Čičov ( Matis & Tirjaková 1992 ); in the periphyton and benthos of the Turiec River ( Tirjaková 1993 ); in the Stupavský potok brook ( Matis & Tirjaková 1994 ); in a groundwater vein in the Vtáčnik Mountain Range ( Krno et al. 1995 ).
