Panicum alopecuroides
Linnaeus
,
Species Plantarum
1
: 55. 1753
.
"Habitat in China." RCN: 472.
Replaced synonym of:
Alopecurus indicus
L. (1774)
,
nom. illeg.
Lectotype
(Veldkamp in Cafferty & al. in
Taxon
49: 253. 2000): Herb. Linn. No. 80.1 (
LINN
)
.
Current name:
Pennisetum alopecuroides
(L.) Spreng.
(
Poaceae
).
Note:
Chase (in
Amer. J. Bot.
8: 48. 1921) discussed the application of the name, suggesting that it "should be restricted
...
leaving the Chinese specimen as the type (=
Pennisetum alopecuroides
(L.) Spreng.
) but not as Sprengel applied the name". However, her use of the uncertain term
"should"
, and uncertainty about which of the specimens at LINN she may have intended (80.1 and 80.2 are candidates), means this cannot be accepted as a typification.
