"Habitat in America meridionali." RCN: 7910. Lectotype (Caluff & Shelton Serrano in Rankin & Greuter, Fl. Republ. Cuba , ser. A, 8(2): 51. 2003): [icon] " Filix arborescens pinnulis dentatis " in Plumier, Descr. Pl. Amer . : 1, t. 2. 1693. Current name: Cyathea arborea (L.) Sm. ( Cyatheaceae ). Note: Copeland (in Univ. Calif. Publ. Bot . 16: 54. 1929) stated that the type is in LINN, but the only sheet there associated with this name appears to be 1251.60, unannotated by Linnaeus and not original material for the name. Tryon (in Contr. Gray Herb . 206: 50. 1976) indicated both Plumiers Traite Foug. Amer .: t. 1 (1705) and his Descr. Pl. Amer . t. 1 and t. 2 (1693) as holotype , and Caluff & Shelton Serrano subsequently restricted this to t. 2 (1693).
