Madagascar
and Mascarenes east to
Kiribati

Line Islands

Pitcairn
Group, north to southern
Japan
and Ogasawara Islands, south to northern
New Zealand
and Rapa; introduced in Hawaiian Islands. Adults found in coral and rocky reefs, juveniles in seagrass beds or patch reefs,
