Distribution and habitat.
New Ireland
: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and
South Africa
and Mascarenes east to Marquesas and Easter islands, north to South
China
Sea and Hawaiian Islands, south to Lord Howe and Norfolk islands. Found on coral reefs, often in deeper areas near drop-offs to the open sea, and in shallow lagoons adjacent to areas of strong currents, as well as over deeper rocky reefs,
0–280 m
depth. Marine.
