"Habitat in America." RCN: 6930. Type not designated. Original material: Herb. Linn. No. 1070.12 ( LINN ) ; Herb. Linn. No. 374.1 ( S ) ; Herb. Clifford: 431, Passiflora 2 ( BM ) ; [icon] in Linnaeus, Amoen. Acad. 1: 223, t. 10, f. 11. 1749; [icon] in Dillenius, Hort. Eltham. 1: 164, t. 137, f. 164. 1732. Current name: Passiflora vespertilio L. ( Passifloraceae ). Note: Killip (in Publ. Field Mus. Nat. Hist., Bot. Ser. 19: 158. 1938) appears to have interpreted this name via a Martyn reference which was not cited in the Linnaean protologue. Holm-Nielsen & al. (in Harling & Andersson, Fl. Ecuador 31: 44. 1988) indicated unspecified material in LINN as type, but failed to distinguish between sheets 1070.12 and 1070.13 (which are not part of a single gathering so Art. 9.15 does not apply).
