Diagnosis (male). Wing apical third maculated, vein M1 swollen, midcoxa with long ventral thin setae. Material examined . Holotype , COSTA RICA : Guanacaste : Estación Pitilla , 11ºN, 85.43ºW , vi.1989 , Malaise trap , 600m , P. Hanson col. ( LACM ) ; Paratype : 1♂ , COSTA RICA : same as holotype, but v.1989 (LACM). Hypopygium description ( Figs. 11–14 ). Hypopygium light brown. Epandrium covered with microtrichia mostly dorsally, proximal lateral areas bare; dorsal and left sutures of the epandrium present. Left epandrial process setose on apical half, with subepandrial dented process close to the hypoproct and subepandrial transversal elevation. Right epandrial projection with subepandrial group of setulae. Hypoproct with two setae. Hypandrium without projections. Geographical distribution . Costa Rica. Comments . The hypopygium of Coniceromyia apicalis is very similar to that of C. hoggi . The close relationship between these species is also suggested by wing features, such as the swollen M1. Both species differ mainly by the convex M2 curvature near the apex in C. hoggi .
