Type material. Female holotype from Centro Universitário, Manaus 3°6’0”S; 60°01’0”W, Amazonas, Brazil, I.1979, J. A. Rafael leg., deposited in INPA; female paratype from Reserva Florestal Adolpho Ducke 3°05’S; 60°00’W, Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil, 19.VII.1991, Irene leg., deposited in IBSP 165979.

Etymology. The specific name is a noun in apposition honoring the leader of the indigenous nation Manaos, who lived in the region of Manaus in the XVIII century.

Diagnosis. Females of Xiruana ajuricaba n. sp. are distinguished from congeneric females by the extremely curved anterior border of epigynal plate, almost touching the posterior border, with lateral ends reaching to the interior of the atrium ( Fig. 10 View FIGURE 10 G).

Description. Female (Holotype). Coloration as in X. hirsuta . Total length 4.9, carapace length 2.1, width 1.5. Clypeus height 0.06. Eye diameters and interdistances: AME 0.08, ALE 0.08, PME 0.08, PLE 0.08; AME–AME 0.04, AME–ALE 0.04, PME–PME 0.1, PME–PLE 0.08, ALE–PLE 0.02. Chelicerae 1.1 long, with four promarginal teeth and five retromarginal denticles. Leg measurements: Leg I—femur 1.5/ patella 0.7/ tibia 1.5/ metatarsus 1.1/ tarsus 0.6/ total 5.4; II—1.4/ 0.6/ 1.1/ 1.0/ 0.5/ 4.6; III—1.2/ 0.5/ 0.9/ 1.0/ 0.4/ 4.0; IV—1.7/ 0.6/ 1.4/ 1.9/ 0.5/ 6.1. Leg spination: I—tibia v2-2 -0, p0, r0, metatarsus v2 -0-0, p0, r0; II—tibia v1-1 -0, p0, r0, metatarsus v2 -0-0, p0, r0; III—tibia v1-2 -2; IV—tibia v1-2 -2, p1-1-1, r1-1-1. Abdomen: length 2.6, epigastric furrow 0.5 from tracheal spiracle, spiracle 1.2 from base of spinnerets. Epigynum: posterior border enlarged; copulatory ducts strongly curved, almost forming a circle; seminal receptacles contiguous to the spermathecae; spermathecae oval, fertilization ducts longer than spermathecae width ( Figs 10 View FIGURE 10 G, H).
