Generic diagnosis: as for Iridotriton hechti , the only species.

Type species: Iridotriton hechti gen. et sp. nov.

Derivation of generic name: from the Greek Iris , meaning rainbow, an allusion to the Rainbow Park microsite, and Triton , a newt.
