ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1861g: 382 (key), 390 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Parmae [ Parma (Italy) ]”.

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, lectotype (slightly moldy, missing left mid-leg) ( MZUF: Box 19): Sarcophaga Mgn / setinervis Rnd. ♂ / 1027 / Specie buona [valid species], det. Böttcher / lectotype ♂, Sarcophaga setinervis Rnd., T. Pape det., 1986 / Heteronychia setinervis (Rnd.) , T. Pape det., 1986.

PARALECTOTYPES EXAMINED: 2 ♂♂ ( MZUF: Box 19): Sarcophaga Mgn / setinervis Rnd. ♂ / 1027 / Specie buona [valid species], det. Böttcher / paralectotype; 1 ♀ ( MZUF: Box 19): Sarcophaga Mgn / setinervis Rnd. ♀ / 1027 / paralectotype.

PARALECTOTYPES NOT EXAMINED: 1 ♂, 1 ♀ ( MZUF: Box F): Sarcophaga setinervis R., 374 , ♂ ♀, Parma / 393 374; 1 ♂ ( MSNPV: Box 95): Sarcophaga setinervis R., 497 , ♂, Parma ; 1 ♂ ( MZUB: Box 329): 22 36 / Sarcophaga setinervis Rond. , ex a. parmensi / setinervis Rndn ., ♂, Parma .

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Sarcophaga (Heteronychia) setinervis View in CoL ( Verves 1986: 147, Pape 1988: 15, Pape et al. 1995: 14, Pape 1996: 333).

REMARKS: Rondani (1861g: 390) described both sexes of Sarcophaga setinervis without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths. Morge (1959b: 90) incorrectly listed this nominal species as “ setinerva”. Pape (1988: 15) designated a lectotype (♂) and paralectotypes (2 ♂♂, 1 ♀) but did not mention an additional four specimens: two in the MZUF, one in the MSNPV and one in the MZUB (all are paralectotypes).
