Material examined. Holotype ♂, Brazil: CE, Parque Nacional de Ubajara , -3.8368/8371 -40.8980/9096, 780– 820 m, 1–7.vii.2016, Hymenaea courbaril (D. Burckhardt & D.L. Queiroz) #211(3) ( MZSP, dry mounted).

Paratypes. Brazil: CE: 11 ♂, 13 ♀, 4 immatures, same data as holotype ( MZSP, NHMB, dry and slide mounted, 70% ethanol).

Description. Adult. Colouration. Vertex light brown to brown anteriorly, pale to dark yellow posteriorly, with a whitish spot on anteorbital tubercles. Occiput whitish. Preocular sclerite brown to dark brown. Eyes red to dark red; ocelli hyaline. Gena anteriorly dark brown to black, laterally and ventrally white; genal processes white. Antenna light yellow, segments 1–2 brown to dark brown, segments 3–6 with dark apices becoming more extended towards apex, segments 7 to 10 dark brown to black. Clypeus yellow, slightly lighter in the middle and slightly darker along the edges; rostrum yellow with black tip. Thorax irregularly dark yellow and brown, pleura usually white, margins of sclerites darker. Pronotum light straw-coloured, brownish along anterior and lateral margins. Mesopraescutum lighter towards lateral and posterior margins, with a diffuse light straw-coloured longitudinal stripe medially. Mesoscutum with diffuse light straw-coloured longitudinal stripes: one medially, one submedially and two sublaterally, and a brown to dark brown longitudinal spot submedially. Mesoscutellum straw-coloured, slightly darker posteromedially. Metascutellum with two straw-coloured longitudinal stripes medially. Metapostnotum with a straw-coloured longitudinal stripe medially. Parapteron whitish. Forewing hyaline; veins light brown, slightly darker towards apex; pterostigma lighter than veins. Hindwing hyaline. Fore leg, mid leg and metafemur dark yellow to yellowish brown, with tarsi sometimes slightly darker; metatibia and metatarsi light straw-coloured. Abdomen light to medium brown; intersegmental membranes light straw-coloured; spiracular sclerites concolorous with tergites. Male terminalia with proctiger irregularly brown, paramere and subgenital plate irregularly dark yellow. Female terminalia dark yellow, brown basally and apically. Younger specimens lighter.

Structure. Vertex with small and nipple-like anteorbital tubercles. Genal processes 0.8–0.9 times as long as vertex along midline, widely separated medially ( Fig. 72 View FIGURES 71–77 ). Antenna 4.1–4.2 times as long as head width. Forewing ( Fig. 74 View FIGURES 71–77 ) 2.8 times as long as head width, 2.6 times as long as wide; pterostigma moderately long, narrower than R 1; M+Cu 1 0.6 times as long as Cu 1; cell cu 1 0.7 times higher than wide; surface spinules mostly absent, rarely present subapically in cell r 1, sparsely and irregularly spaced; radular spines in cells m 1, m 2 and cu 1, denser close to margin, forming linear patches. Metatibia 0.6 times as long as head width. Terminalia as in Figs 81, 90, 91 View FIGURES 78–95 and 98 View FIGURES 96–104 . Male proctiger 0.4 times as head width, basally with distinct posterior lobes, stout and directed posteriorly. Paramere 0.8 times as long as proctiger, lamellar, with anterior margin sinuous and posterior margin straight, apically narrower, angulate and obliquely truncate; apex sclerotised with two teeth, one medially directed inwards and one posteriorly directed towards the rear; outer surface with apical half sparsely covered in long setae, denser apically and along posterior margin; inner surface sparsely covered in short setae, except basally, with long setae along posterior margin and thicker setae apically. Distal segment of aedeagus strongly inflated apically; distal dilatation irregularly oval, slightly constricted apically; sclerotised end tube of ductus ejaculatorius short, sinuous. Female proctiger 1.0 times as long as head width, dorsal outline slightly convex, apex strongly upturned, distinctly narrow and subacute; circumanal ring 0.3 times as long as proctiger. Female subgenital plate 0.5 times as long as proctiger; in lateral view, ventral outline notched submedially, apex subacute, dorsal outline relatively straight; in ventral view, evenly narrowing towards broad, rounded apex; sparsely covered in peg-setae, denser apically, with long setae dorsally in the middle and along ventral margin.

Measurements (in mm) and ratios (1 ♂, 1 ♀). Head width ♂ 0.89, ♀ 0.99; antenna length ♂ 3.73, ♀ 4.10; fore- wing length ♂ 2.45, ♀ 2.8; male proctiger length 0.34; paramere length 0.26; length of distal segment of aedeagus 0.29; female proctiger length 0.97; female subgenital plate 0.49.

Fifth instar immature. Colouration. White. Eyes reddish; antenna with apices of flagellar segments brown, getting gradually darker towards brown apex; tip of rostrum black.

Structure. Body 1.8 times as long as wide. Antenna 8-segmented, 2.0 times as long as forewing pad which has 10–12 short setae dorsally and 24–25 short lanceolate and medium long capitate marginal setae. Circumanal ring ( Fig. 102 View FIGURES 96–104 ) small, distance from anus to outer circumanal ring about twice as long as that from there to group of sectasetae, angular laterally; consisting of several rows of pores except medially.

Measurements (in mm) and ratios (1 immature). Body length 2.60, antenna length 1.62.

Etymology. Noun in genitive case. Named after its host genus Hymenaea .

Distribution. Brazil (CE).

Host plant, biology and habitat. Hymenaea courbaril L. (Leguminosae).

Comments. Jataiba hymenaeae differs from other congeners in the medially widely separated genal processes, with subparallel axes, the small, nipple-like anteorbital tubercles on the vertex, the relatively narrower forewing and the host association with Hymenaea .
