Pl. 1, Figs 3a, b, 5

M a t e r i a l. Two leafy shoots from GLAz (MGPTPU141003, MGPT-PU141004) and two others from GLA20 (MGPT-PU141091, MGPT-PU141092).

R e m a r k s. The leaves are narrower than those of Taiwania and the shoot does not bear the delicate and short scaly leaves of Glyptostrobus europaeus (BRONGN.) UNGER. The same kind of foliage is associated in a few Pliocene sites, e.g., Ca’ Viettone ( Bertoldi and Martinetto 1995) and Momello-Lanzo ( Martinetto 1998), with globose cones very similar to those of the extant Cryptomeria japonica D.DON.
