Description (Fig. 24). Male. Body length 3.3mmArista densely plumose on basal half.. Setae dark brown. Ocellar seta well-developed. Presutural intra-alar seta present. Two dorsocentral setae. Acrostichal seta absent. One pair of lateral scutellar setae. Head yellow with ocellar tubercle and face brown (yellow between antennal bases); gena and parafacial silvery-tomentose. Scutum brown with central yellow stripe (tapering posteriorly) and thin yellow line separating postpronotum from notopleuron. Scutellum and metanotum brown. Pleuron yellow with anepimeron, anepisternum and anterodorsal surface of katepisternum brown. Legs yellow with fore tibia, hind tibia (excluding base) and fore tarsi light brown. Halter entirely white. Wing dusky (darkest anteriorly and apically). M1+2 ratio 3.3. Abdomen brown with tergite 1 yellow and epandrium and surstylus dark brown.

Female. Unknown.

Male terminalia. (Figs 45–47) Annulus well-developed, enclosing 7th spiracle. Surstylus long, broad, and with posterior margin curved inwards; tubercles along inner surface of apical and posterior margins, excluding base. Cerci small and rounded with setae short. Hypandrial complex lightly pigmented. Hypandrial lobe with one minute distal and two long medial setae. Phallapodeme, basiphallus, epiphallus and postgonite well-developed. Pregonite subrectangular, weakly sclerotized and with several apical setulae. Distiphallus slightly longer than half length of phallapodeme; paraphallus arched and spinulose distally; thumb well-developed.

Variation. One paratype male with spot below ocellar tubercle on back of head, first flagellomere with dorsal stripe, face dirty yellow, legs light yellow, anepisternum and katepisternum yellow with small brown anterior spot, wing with light infuscation around cross-veins and with clear medial band, and plane of surstylus oblique.

Etymology. The specific name refers to the diagnostic clouded wing of this species.

Holotype: THAILAND. S Khao Lak Nat. Par., Tone Chong Fah Fall , 100km N Phuket , 20.x.1993, F. Kaplan & A. Freidberg (1♂, TAU).

Paratypes: THAILAND. S Khao Sok Nat. Par., Rt. 401, 22.x.1993, F. Kaplan & A. Freidberg (1♂, TAU), NW, Tam Pha Mon Cave, 4kmSE Soppong , 26.x.2002, A. Freidberg (1♂, TAU).

Comments. Sobarocephala nimbipennis is a relatively dark Southeast Asian species with a yellow, posteriorly tapering scutal stripe, a brown postpronotum, developed presutural intra-alar setae and large surstyli with numerous tubercle-like setae along the inner-posterior margin.
